The guide
How to play Rummatro™
Rummy you already understand, wrapped in a roguelike that lets you break its own rules. Here's a run, start to finish.
1 · The goal
Each run is a climb through eight antes. Every ante throws Blinds at you with a score target. Play hands of cards to beat each target before you run out of hands — clear the Boss Hazard at the top of the ante and you move on. Lose, and the run ends. Then you start a fresh one, a little wiser.
2 · Sets & Runs
You hold a hand of ten cards. You score by arranging melds:
- Sets — three or more cards of the same rank (e.g. three Kings).
- Runs — three or more cards of the same suit in sequence (e.g. 5-6-7 of clubs).
Select the cards that form your best meld and Play Hand to bank the score. Don't like your cards? Discard up to five and draw replacements — but discards are limited, so spend them well.
3 · Chips × Mult
Rummatro scores on two numbers: Chips (base points from the cards you play) and Mult (a multiplier). Your score for a hand is Chips × Mult. The whole game is a hunt for ways to pump both — a bigger meld adds Chips, while Relics and upgrades crank the Mult. Small changes to each compound fast.
4 · Blinds & Boss Hazards
Each ante has a small Blind, a big Blind, and a Boss Hazard. The small and big Blinds are straight score checks. The Boss Hazard adds a twist — a rule that changes how this fight works — so a build that cruised through the ante might suddenly need rethinking. Beat it to bank your cash and climb.
5 · Relics
Relics are passive upgrades that stay active for the rest of the run. You can equip up to five. They're where runs get broken in the best way — letting you form mixed-suit runs, wrap a sequence from King to Ace to Two, or stack multipliers that shouldn't be legal. Choosing which five to build around is the heart of the game.
6 · Consumables & Tarot
Consumables are one-shot cards you hold and use when the moment's right. Many are Tarot-style stamps that edit your deck: duplicate an ace, destroy a weak card, or stamp +30 Chips onto a card permanently. Used at the right time, one consumable turns a losing hand into a blowout.
7 · Suitcases
Suitcases permanently level up a type of hand for the rest of the run. Level up your Run of five and it might become +25 Chips, +2 Mult every time you play it. Lean into the hands your Relics reward and the Suitcases make them monstrous.
8 · The Shop
Clear a Blind and you earn cash. Between rounds the Shop opens: spend cash on Relics, Suitcases and Tarot, sell anything you've outgrown for a refund, or re-roll for a fresh set of options. Managing money — when to save and when to spend — is its own puzzle.
9 · Push your luck
Every ante gets meaner, but your build gets stronger. The tension of Rummatro is exactly that race: can your engine outscale the escalating Blinds? Get greedy, take the risky Relic, and see how far one deck can go.
Quick tips
- Plan around your Relics — build the hands they reward, not just the cards you're dealt.
- Chips and Mult multiply. A modest boost to both beats a big boost to one.
- Hold Tarot for the Boss Hazard; a well-timed edit can rescue a run.
- Don't hoard cash — a Relic bought now compounds across every remaining ante.
- Use the Sort buttons to spot melds faster before you commit a hand.
